The film duology is dedicated to Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev, the first and last president of the Soviet Union and a Nobel Prize laureate. Filming took place in Moscow, Berlin, and Rome, at a reception with the Pope in the Vatican, as well as in Gorbachev's homeland, the Stavropol Territory.
